After years of travelling, tasting, meeting people, reading and dreaming
When the love of Italy and the love of wine come together…
Like so many Flemish people, we are Italophiles … and we come from families where wine was tasted, savoured and discussed at every celebration.
On trips to Rome – and later to other parts of Southern Italy – we were time and again surprised by the phenomenal value for money of the local wines…
We found the sincere warmth, the untrodden paths and the unhurried, “slow” pace of Southern Italy in this wine culture as well. Whereas many wines from Northern Italy are known, acclaimed and marketed worldwide, this turned out to be far less often the case for the South.
We got to know winemakers, learned how to really taste and read a great many books about (Southern Italian) wine. We let friends and family taste samples and give their verdict.
From all these years of travelling, tasting, meeting people, reading and dreaming, “Appia Vini” was born in 2018, named after the most famous road in history, which connects Rome with Brindisi in the far south.
We love selecting our winemakers ourselves, after meeting them in person and visiting them on site.
In our selection, authenticity comes first. We look for wineries that are not too large, that make their products with the greatest passion and love, and that value quality over mass production. And we prefer untrodden paths: wines that were not yet on the Belgian market.
We stay in close personal contact with each of our wineries. We import their products directly, which is how we guarantee the best value for money.
